Lausanne is also the departure purpose for a worthwhile trip to evian, for a sentimental and relaxing trip in an old-fashioned lake-boat. Not to be missed is a visit to montreux and the chillon castle via the lavaux vineyards (a unesco world heritage site) with breathtaking views over the lake to the french alps. A visit to gruyre, a small medieval town, and its cheese factories offer a touch of swiss culinary history expressly known for its fondue.
