General Description: Hotel dom is centrally yet quietly located in the heart of the old town of st. Gallen. Only a few footsteps away is the abbey district with the cathedral and the abbey library which became a unesco world cultural heritage in 1983. The traffic free shopping locality of the old town starts just outside the hotel offering an distinctive range of shops in a unique historical ambiance. Guests arriving by car can use our own parking grounds or garage. For guests arriving by train the walk from st. Gallen main station takes only a few minutes. The hotel dom offers 31 rooms with bathroom and shower. The rooms provide telephone; radio and tv. Wheelchair accessible rooms and non-smoking rooms are available. The service for our guests goes beyond the habitual business class standards. Our breakfast buffet provides a ritzy variety of fresh products from the locality some of them are organically grown. Drinks can be ordered from the reception at any time. The in residence textile department takes care of your clothes. An internet terminal at the reception completes the array of services we offer to our guests. A collection of art brut and naive art contributes considerably to the distinctive ambiance of the house. Hotel dom displays approximately 90 original paintings and sculptures. They are made by self educated folk abundant of them from the margins of society or from disabled people. The hotel is a pioneer project to amalgamate folk with minor disabilities into the working process. The hotel offers employment; training and support to about 30 folk with a handicap. The philosophy behind the project is to invent a work environment where the employees can develop their distinct talents and expand their independence and self awareness. Additional information; children age 12 and under stay free in the room of parents. The property is closed over christmas and new year.
